Employee Onboarding at NRG: A Smooth Transition for New Hires

Starting a new job is always stressful. People naturally worry about whether they can handle their new responsibilities, build good relationships with colleagues, and integrate well into the team.
Research shows that it takes between one and four months for a person to fully adjust to a new workplace. Other studies indicate that most employees who leave within the first six months make that decision within the first 2-3 weeks.
A well-structured onboarding process not only helps companies avoid the additional costs of recruiting and training replacements but also ensures that new hires quickly understand the company’s culture, processes, and expectations.
Key Terms in NRG’s Onboarding Process
Onboarding – The process of integrating a new employee into an unfamiliar team, professional environment, and company. At NRG, onboarding typically lasts three months.
Hiring Lead – The person responsible for recruiting the new employee.
Mentor – A team member assigned to guide the newcomer throughout the onboarding period.
How Does Onboarding Work at NRG?
Once a candidate accepts a job offer, the Hiring Lead initiates the "New Employee" process.
The Mentor receives a notification to begin onboarding, following a structured Mentor Roadmap that outlines key steps and milestones.
To ensure clarity from day one, the Mentor works with the new hire to create a New Employee Roadmap, detailing expectations for the probation period. Additionally, the newcomer is introduced to their role description, helping them understand their responsibilities and goals.
By providing clear guidance and support, NRG ensures that every new team member feels welcome, confident, and ready to contribute from the very beginning.
